Insurance: What Is Liability Insurance?
Insurance is a vital part of our lives. There are few people left who do not have an insurance policy of some description. Having insurance just makes people feel that much safer.
One of the insurance policies available is liability insurance. What this kind of policy covers you against are things like accidents where you are at fault and there is some kind of damage caused to either a person or property. There are three main sections in a liability insurance policy: bodily injury liability coverage, liability coverage for damage to property, and uninsured coverage.
Bodily injury cover is for the injuries of others caused by something you have done. You are covered for legitimate claims for medical treatment or lost wages due to injury.
Liability cover for damage to property is for those times when you cause damage to someone else’s property through your actions. The insurance company will pay for the repairs to the property.
Uninsured cover is to pay for damages where you were not at fault but the person at fault does not have any insurance and will be unable to pay for the repairs out of their own pocket. This is to protect you from the uninsured person rather than to protect other people from you.
Liability insurance is not the same as other insurance. It covers only the people and property you cause damage to or you if you have damage caused by an uninsured person. It is definitely a worthwhile investment for each and every person. There are a number of different options on a liability policy, you do not have to take out all three. You can make a selection that suits you and what you wnat to be covered for.
It is, however, advisable to take out bodily injury and damage to property liability cover.
