What does this policy cover me for?
The Hollard life insurance policy pays out a lump sum on your death (or on the death of your partner, if they are covered on the policy).
If you have selected more than R200 000 life cover, for an extra premium, you can also choose to cover yourself for serious illness, functional impairment and occupational disability.
How much cover can I get?
You can select a level of cover that suits your budget and your needs, from R200 000 cover to R3 million cover.
Is a medical required ?
Yes we will send a professional nurse to you at a time and place which is convenient for you, at no additional cost to you.
How old do I need to take out life cover?
To qualify for life cover, you need to be between the ages of 18 and 60 years.
What happens if I miss a premium?
You have 30 days from the premium due date to pay the premium that you missed. Your cover will continue for this time, but if you claim, the unpaid premium will be deducted from the claim amount paid out.
Please note that if you miss your first premium or if you miss two consecutive premiums, the policy will automatically lapse, and all cover will cease.
What is not covered under the Hollard Life policy?
For the first two years of the policy, we will not pay a benefit if death is a result of self-inflicted injuries or suicide.
If your policy lapses and you subsequently reinstate it, this exclusion period will again apply.
Hollard will also not pay a benefit if any claim is traceable to war, riot or Terrorist Activity, or to you engaging in
any criminal offense.
What is a pre-existing condition?
A pre-existing condition is any medical condition, physical defect, illness, bodily injury or disability that you had (whether or not you were aware of the condition) before you applied for cover.
Can I increase my cover?
To make sure your benefits keep pace with inflation, you may choose to automatically increase your benefits
annually.
Will I get anything back if I cancel my life insurance policy?
If you cancel your policy within the first 30 days of commencement – for any reason whatsoever - you will
receive a full refund of premiums that have been paid.
Please note that as this policy is not a savings plan, should you cancel the policy anytime after 30 days from
the date of commencement, no refund will be payable.
Can I decide who will receive the benefit?
We make all benefit payments to you. If you die, we will pay the benefit to the person you have chosen to
receive the benefit (your nominated beneficiary). If you have not nominated a beneficiary, the benefit will be
paid to your estate.
How do I claim?
To claim on your policy, you or your beneficiary are required to complete the relevant claims forms and send
them to us together with any additional information we may need in order to assess the claim. We undertake
to finalise all valid claims within 48 hours of receiving the required claims documents. These include, but are
not limited to:
